El Sol Mexican Restaurant is a straightforward, full-service Mexican eatery nestled along Pleasanton Road in San Antonio. It carries the feel of a well-loved neighborhood spot where locals swing by for hearty breakfasts and satisfying lunches. This isn’t a flashy joint but more of a “mom and pop” style place, where homemade touches—like the tortillas—stand out and give it an authentic home-cooked vibe.

The atmosphere feels comfortably busy, especially on weekend mornings when families arrive fresh from Sunday service, ready for a flavorful brunch. El Sol moves orders efficiently despite the steady flow of customers, but patience during peak hours is part of the experience; there’s often a wait in line or while parked outside. Once seated, the service feels attentive and accommodating, fitting for a place where familiarity and routine visitors are the norm.

The menu centers around classic Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes. Breakfast tacos—featuring fillings like crispy bacon and egg or chorizo con huevos—are a popular grab-and-go option that locals appreciate for a quick yet filling start to the day. For heartier plates, the carne guisada offerings draw particular praise, whether in tacos with cheese or as a savory plate paired with sides. Puffy tacos, enchiladas, and various fajita plates add to the well-rounded Latin American selection, appealing to those craving authentic, satisfying flavors that lean more toward home-style than restaurant polish.

El Sol’s practical yet flavorful approach makes it a good fit for people who want comforting, familiar Mexican food without fuss. It’s the kind of place families frequent for casual meals, early risers after church, or anyone wanting a solid carne guisada or a quick breakfast taco fix. Visiting midweek or earlier in the morning can help avoid lines, while weekends bring a more lively, communal energy as regulars gather over steaming coffee and plates of menudo or fajitas.

Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast on the run or a relaxed sit-down lunch, El Sol offers an authentic taste of San Antonio’s home-style Mexican cooking in a setting that echoes the neighborhood’s everyday rhythms.

Homemade tortillas were great. I got the lunch special and was given a generous amount of food. Place seemed very homey and the waitresses were accommodating. Definitely a place to come back to in the future. Sometimes can be busy so there might be some wait time.

Well, yet there's another spot for great brunch. Family and i went on a Sunday right after church, and let me tell you, it'll be busy. That's the norm. Be patient in waiting outside or in your vehicle until your table is up. I immediately ordered a coffee and served perfectly. Family and i had time to look over the menu as the food orders are being pushed out as fast as they can be. Many different choices to choose from and breakfast being served all day is just a plus! The food was delicious, all served at once so we could all enjoy it. Thank you to the staff for taking care of our table and getting what we needed to better our experience. We come every now and again and will keep trying dishes from their menu. Now, who's hungry?

Good food, if you're in the area. Restaurant gets pretty packed during lunch and on the weekends. A little pricey for me though. A enchilada plate with a side of fajitas was around $16. Breakfast tacos are around $3, that's not so bad. Tortillas are definitely HOMEMADE that's a PLUS!

Right now this restaurant for me has the best Carne Guisada in San Antonio. Everything is good here. Menudo is good. It’s a more like a mom and pop place holding the wall type of situation but definitely try it out for yourself.
